Community SMP commands and plugins help
Commands to customise your gameplay
New features through Vanilla Tweaks
Basic commands
/afk |
use to toggle the tab display to show that you are ‘away from keyboard’ or that you’ve returned |
/rules |
read the server rules |
Commands to customise your gameplay
/pvp |
when you first join the SMP, PvP is disabled so you are protected from attack from other players, but only for 5 minutes. After this, if you don’t want other players to attack or hurt you, then you can type /pvp to turn PvP off |
/keepinventory [true/false] |
by default on the Community SMP, keep inventory is set to true. For a more challenging experience, you can change your personal setting to drop your items and XP on death by typing /keepinventory false . This is at your own risk: if you die, admins will not be able to help you get your stuff back. You can change back to the default by typing /keepinventory true . To see your current setting, type /keepinventory |
Teleport commands
/back |
teleport to the location you were at previously before death/teleporting |
/tpa [playername] |
request to teleport to another player |
/tpahere [playername] |
request to teleport another player to your location |
/tpaccept |
accept a teleport request |
/tpacancel |
cancel a teleport request |
Setting home locations
Homes let you teleport to places easily by typing in chat – e.g. /home base
could teleport you back to your base if you set that up. You can set up to three homes.
/sethome [name] |
set a home at your current location so you can return there easily |
/home [name] |
teleport to one of your home locations |
/delhome [name] |
delete a home |
Claiming your land and base
We have a rule on the SMP that you should claim your land and base. This prevents damage from other players (griefing) and stops people stealing your stuff. Note that admins are able to access everything on your claim.
When you start you can claim an area up to 100 blocks (e.g. 10×10 blocks in the x and z coords). Your claim includes the y axis up to world height, and as you dig below your base your claim will automatically extend downwards too.
When you claim land you will use up some of your claim blocks, but don’t worry as you will automatically earn more as you play on the server.
To claim land you use a golden shovel (you can pick one up for free at the guard hut, near the castle entrance at spawn). This tutorial video shows how to do it.
Alternatively a simpler way to claim land is to place a chest on unclaimed land, and the 9×9 area centred around the chest will automatically be claimed to you. This only works if you haven’t already claimed land, and will use 81 of your claim blocks. You’ll need to place the chest in the centre of your build so that your build is protected as best as possible.
Once you’ve made a claim, here are some commands you can use to manage it:
/abandonclaim |
deletes your claim (you need to stand in it) |
/abandonallclaims |
deletes all of your claims |
/claimexplosions |
toggles if explosions are allowed in the claim (off by default) |
/claimslist |
lists your claims and claim block amount details |
Some other useful commands relating to claims:
/trapped |
gets you out of a land claim you’re trapped inside |
/givepet [playername] |
gives away a tamed animal to another player |
If you want other players to be able to change blocks or access items in your claim, then there are some additional commands you can use to control permissions. You’ll need to stand in a claim to control permissions just for that claim, or stand outside a claim for permissions to apply in all your claims:
/trust [playername/all] |
gives another player/all players full permission in your claim, including everything described below under /containertrust as well as being able to change blocks in your claim. |
/accesstrust [playername] |
gives a player permission to use your buttons, levers, and beds |
/containertrust [playername] |
gives a player permission to use your buttons, levers, beds, crafting gear, unlocked containers, and animals |
/permissiontrust [playername] |
grants a player permission to share their permission level with others |
/untrust [playername/all] |
revokes any permissions you granted to a player/all players in your claim |
/trustlist |
lists the permissions for the claim you’re standing in |
Locking doors and containers
You can also lock doors, chests and other containers (shulker box, furnace, dropper etc, but not hoppers or containers on minecarts). This helps keep your stuff safe everywhere on the server, even if you place a container outside your claim. Note that admins are able to access locked containers and open locked doors.
By default, new containers are locked, but doors are not. So only you can access your containers, but anyone can open your doors.
You can change whether doors and containers are locked or not with some simple commands:
/lock [playername] |
then punch an unlocked container/door to lock it. If you type /lock then the container or door will be locked so only you can open it. If you type for example /lock Alex Steve then both Alex AND Steve can access it, as well as you |
/unlock |
then punch a container/door to remove any lock. This will let any player who has /trust or /containertrust on that claim use that container/door |
/cnolock |
toggle the “no-lock mode” on or off. No-lock mode means that future containers you place will not be locked. E.g. if you want to place several unlocked shulker boxes in a row then type /cnolock first. This automatically resets when you leave the SMP server, or you can type /cnolock to change it manually |
/cinfo |
then punch a protected container or door to view some information, e.g. who it’s locked to |
Be aware that containers can be protected by both a lock and a claim, which can be complicated. Ask us for help if you need it!
Using and setting up shops
We have a rule that all shops should be operated using the tradeshop plugin to prevent stealing.
To buy from a tradeshop, just right click on the sign. For example if you are at a shop that sells sugarcane at a price of 1 diamond per stack (64), if you want to buy a stack, make sure you have at least 1 diamond in your inventory and right click on the sign. You can’t undo a purchase automatically, so contact the shop owner for any refunds.
If you want to set up your own shop, follow these steps:
- Place a chest in your shop.
- Place a sign on the chest, type
[Trade]
on the top line of the sign, and then exit the sign. - Hovering over the sign so that a black outline appears on the sign, type the command
/ts addProduct
followed by the amount and the item you want to sell – e.g. to set up the sugarcane example above, type/ts addProduct 64 SUGAR_CANE
- Then type
/ts addCost
, followed by the amount and the item people you want people to pay with – e.g./ts addCost 1 DIAMOND
- The bottom row of the sign should say [Out Of Stock]
- Then place the items you want to sell into the chest. The bottom of the sign should now say [Open]. You have now set up your first shop chest! You can repeat with more chests – one for each type of item you want to sell.
For more information on how to set tradeshops up, you can watch this video or check out the tradeshop plugin wiki.
New features through Vanilla Tweaks
The following are installed to make play more fun and bring some new things to the SMP. You might recognise some of these from popular YouTuber SMPs, including Hermitcraft, Empires and Imperial.
Armor statues | Adds a unique book that lets you alter the properties of armour stands. To enable this, get a book and quill, don’t write in it, title it Statues , then click ‘Sign’ and then close the book. You will then receive a copy of the armour stand book. The instruction video explains how to use it. |
Dragon drops | You can now get an elytra and a dragon egg every time you kill the enderdragon |
More mob heads | You now have a chance of getting a mob’s head when you kill it – more info |
Wandering trades | Wandering traders are now more useful, as they sell mini blocks for extra decoration options! You can buy 8 of the mini blocks for the price of 1 of the full-sized item, plus 1 emerald |
Universal dyeing | Allows you to re-dye a coloured block to a different colour in a crafting table |
Craftable bundles (rabbit hide) | Bundles didn’t make it to 1.18, but don’t worry we have them anyway! You’ll need 6 rabbit hide and 2 string to craft up a bundle |
Fun custom commands
/boom |
a fun command that sets off an explosion sound and particle effects (but don’t worry it won’t actually do any damage!) |
/moo |
a fun command that plays a random cow sound |
We have more ideas for custom commands so watch this space! And feel free to suggest any more ideas through #feedback on Discord.
