What is a LAN party

A LAN party is a gathering for computer gamers to meet and share a local area network (LAN), they can then participate in extended gaming sessions of popular games such as Minecraft, Team Fortress, Command and Conquer and Star Craft. On a LAN, response time among players is much faster than the same interaction over the Internet, thus changing the quality of the game. In addition, gamers have the opportunity to meet other players and make new friends. LAN parties range in size from a few players getting together in a private home to gatherings of over a thousand players converging to participate in a large public events. Events are usually BYOC (bring your own computer) but some events are held were the hardware is provided. The larger LAN parties (or events, as they become) often attract sponsorship from hardware and software companies.
